Even though all real estate agents and brokers are required by state law to pass a qualifying examination, they are not all REALTORS. Only licensed real estate agents who are members of the Charleston Trident Association of REALTORS, the State Association, and the National Association of REALTORS, are allowed to used the REALTORS trademark. It signifies the REALTORS adherence to a strict Code of Ethics that sets standards higher than the laws governing real estate in the state. To make sure you are working with a REALTOR look for the federally registered membership mark of a REALTOR.
Today, with over 2,100 members, the Charleston Trident Association of REALTORS is the largest association in the state. The Association maintains a full-time staff and office in Charleston. It operates both residential and commercial Multiple Listing Services for its members with jurisdiction covering all of Berkeley, Dorchester and Charleston counties. Each MLS member firm has instantaneous computer access to all properties listed with the service.
In 1988, the Association created the Charleston Trident Association of REALTORS Real Estate School. This was the Association's effort to fulfill a need for quality education. The school continues to respond to this need with excellent instructors and convenient classes at a reasonable cost. There is a new class each month in Temporary and Permanent Pre-licensing courses as well as classes for the Broker and Property Management licenses.
The Association' s goals are to promote and maintain high standards of conduct in the profession and to promote home ownership and private property rights for all citizens.
Be sure to look for the Association of REALTORS' logo when choosing a real estate agent. A roster of member REALTOR firms is available through the Association.
