In 1994, this legacy carries through to all levels. The Trident region is a leader in the Southeast for business involvement in education, with more than 400 active partners in the Charleston Trident Chamber of Commerce' s Business Education Partnership Program.
Elementary-High School Education
The Trident region is home to four public school districts, serving over 93,000 students in some 132 schools. The pupil/teacher ratio is 17-to-1 in Dorchester IV, 20-to-1 in Dorchester II, 19-to-1 in Charleston County and 20-to- 1 in Berkeley County. Forty-three percent of the region's teachers hold a master's degree while an additional 9 percent possess a six year certificate or a doctorate. Seven schools for children with special education needs are available throughout the region.
The Trident area's local school districts also sponsor classes for adults. The course list boasts everything from the art of calligraphy to basic auto mechanics.
Approximately 10 percent of the total students in the region (9,415 students in 1992) are enrolled in the area's 25 private schools.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING
Trident Technical College is a public two year institution that was founded in 1964 to respond to and serve the needs of the Trident area for accessible, high quality education. The college emphasizes practical, marketable job skills providing diversified, comprehensive and updated technical programs.
In addition to vocational and technical education, Trident provides industrial training through the special schools division of the State Board for Technical Education. This division is prepared to train workers for industry. locating in South Carolina at no cost to the manufacturer.

FIRST BAPTIST SCHOOL
First Baptist Church School was established in 1949 as an educational ministry of the First Baptist Church.
